The Police Boss to Revamp Rapid intervention forces in Buea The Delegate- General for National Security, Emmanuel Edou, has instructed his subordinate, South West Regional Delegate, to revamp the Special Rapid Intervention Unit so as to be more effective in cases of distress calls. The National Police boss was addressing the Police, Administrative and other local authorities amid the population that turned out at the Clerks’ Quarters ceremonial ground in Buea to receive him yesterday August13, 2009. Buea was the third lap of Emmanuel Edou’s tour of Police Services in the country after Yaounde and Douala following his appointment last 16 July.
The National Police boss remarked that the South West was a sensitive security zone given its geographic location sharing borders with the Littoral Region with intense criminal activities as well as the peculiar situation of the Bakassi Zone. The Delegate General called for a complete horizontal and vertical collaboration chiefly with the population for the success of their demanding mission. He summoned a pioneer spirit, sacrifice and unalloyed patriotism for the Police in the Bakassi zone saying facilities will be assured in no distant future. The Police Boss declared that he would reward performing workers and sanction wayward elements.
The Delegate General noted that he was aware of the stretch of crime in the South West from usual armed robbery and attack of private homes to involve hostage taking, insecurity in the Gulf of Guinea , “fey mania”, cyber crime and most especially the clandestine transportation practiced by unscrupulous elements of the forces of law and order. The Police Boss underscored the prevailing turmoil within political parties in the Region and the problems faced by some local industrial companies as serious causes for Police concern.
At a 42-minute working session with local authorities of the judiciary, administrative and traditional rulers in the CEFAM Hall, the Delegate General reiterated that the matter of security is always a partnership between the forces, other social corps and the population at large.
An earlier call from the Buea Council Mayor, Mbella Moki Charles, on behalf of all Regional Mayors, expressed the high expectations of the population which is in need of effective proximity Police that should be more friendly with the population. Mbella beame the advocate of the Police asking for working material like vehicles, motorcycles and communications gadgets.

Its not just the rapid intervention forces in Buea that should be revampe, but the whole governing system of the republic of Cameroon.The whole system should be over-hauled ,for we have not only lost faith in our policeforce, but also with the three other arms of the government.The actions and inactions of the rapid intervention forces in Buea are just the reflection of what is taking place within the national triangle.That of a leaderless country, abandoned to itself. by: esapa from: paris,france
