Ghana is a million miles ahead of Cameroon. All their universities have well-designed websites. What is the computer science department doing? It is such a shame! That is why degrees from UB are not respected overseas. 

infact the site is a mess;cant somebody write

UB IT infrastructure sucks so bad. We need students to be able to register courses online. It could be done in such a way that you get to talk to the HOD or Dean only when you wanna take more than the required courses/credits for a semester.
Students should be able view their results online. Idk what the IT management in UB is waiting for to bring up such projects. I am a Consultant with IBM in USA, and I also work for ZaZo Technologies which is an IT Company specialized in so many domains of technology. A month a go we were in Cameroon sourcing for contracts to carry out such infrastructural and Institution integrations but was turned down. the government of Cameroon rather gave 38billion CFA to a china based company to implement just half of what we wanted to implement with 30billion CFA. We know the terrain and know what we can do to get hold of almost all the frauds than the Chinese. I can’t believe UB doesn’t have a website. Does our prestige only go with academics and not moving with the world to “go green”?
Administrators in Cameroon at all levels needs to be re-orientated.

We have developed an advanced web sites, all the features you will ever need on a university website, that register for a course online, lecturers can post their tutorials online, and alot more, guess we provide an inbuilt social network exact like facebook, but we were to go and come back and since then no more respone. this is not some thing we want money, it is free. We got a professional designer to do the design from Adobe Flash CS4 and other design tools, so that we can focus on the development. but really funny that we don’t asked them to pay for hosting, we will take care of the hosting, we just need an agreement and a go ahead documents, that’s just all what we needed.

Men the ubuea.net is still wack!! No information,nothing interesting. Nothing makes the site attractive, they need to do some major upgrading.

waw thats good news but i think they still have a long way to go.
i was just browsing through the website and i noticed that most of the links were not yet developed like the Academic link; undergradute and postgraduate search gave no results, but i think its quite a great step for the university and an innovation too.

But i advice that the website should be developed in such a way that the University of Buea can offer distant learning courses and make it possible for students to register their courses online.

I very much disagree with ambesi, and FYI degrees from UB are not rejected. You shouldn’t compare UB to UK institutions. How many computer science instructors has Ub has. I’ve been there in the MAT/CSC department and knows what it means.

It is not the sole duty of the computer science department to make the site rich. The instructors are first of all overworked with class work, not to mention doing more work on the site. That is the department that needs teachers must in UB, but where are there? Some Cameroonian patriots even abandon good offers in their diaspora to come and teach back home but they are never given the job, I reserve my examples. So you see fingers point back at the government.

One way to reduce the weight is to give some of the work to be done on he site as projects/assignments to students. But can they really do that? Not when the students are only taught the theoretically. I know of students who completed CSC201 and CSC202, but could not even write and run a simple Hello World! application.
Again, the fingers point at the gov’t for not providing the needed infrastructure to make the job more doable.

If UB is to be run by a body other than the Cameroon government, I bet you there are a lot of people out here willing to chip in something to see that UB is what it deserves to be.

I wish voices like Bara’s and Mr. USA’s were heard.

This is chaotic to figure out.
Why is UB and the so called administrators doing??

In the Information Communication technology ERA in which electronic governance and grievance systems are becoming the order of the day UB can’t cook up a good website!!! No microsoft outlook web Access to UB students,NO eblack board or teletop system,yet we call it a citadel of learning!!

(A citadel of learning ma foot)I think it is high time the powers that be even have a good website so folks out of UB can even talk about UB. we are proud of it yes but more still has to be done.I don’t think finance should be a major problem here but misplaced of preference.
UB GIVE ME A BREAK!!!!!!

When we talk of Universities in Cameroon, how would UB rank itself as one when its got nothing to show the far away interested person.

I will like to appreciated the Director of the IT center for the marvelous job he has been doing.It will be a shame to hear that it was just last year that UB website was built thanks to the newly appointed director even though it has been existing for years and having a director.I turn to ask myself why the Minister of Higher Educ has to keep incompetent workers.It was evident that the then IT director was not competent because she was there for years and Ub was going on without a website.This puzzle has left a host of others and I pondering if the authorities in our country really cares.

I really appreciate the effort of Dr Nkwetiyem Denis who is working day and night to see to it that UB is a model University in Africa.I think the appointment of Dr Nkwetiyem is the only good thing the Cameroon Gov’t has ever done since I was born.He is really God sent.I beg him to keep on with the good work and help see to it that students results are made available to them online ,courses are sign online,admission should be done online,and lecturers should send lecture notes to students prior to the lecture so that they can prepare before coming to class.

I totally disagree with all those who say degrees from UB the place to be are not recognized worldwide. UB degrees are equal to UK, US,etc degrees, and UB is affiliated to many universities in Europe and the US. There are many UB graduates who are doing post graduate programs in European, American, Asian etc, universities without any bias, as they go through the same admission procedures as the citizens and other foreigners.
Also, it is not the responsibility of the IT department of a university to develop or manage a website. The university needs to contact professionals to do the layout and design, as well as all other technicalities for the website, while some university employees may be given the job to get the information to be typed and laid out in the site. I think we should at least appreciate what UB has for now, and together, give ideas on the improvement of the site. All our criticisms, and anarchy will not help. I think the site is still open to scrutiny.

Hi folks, all is not lost just that UB can can do better with all its got now. Yaounde I is worst. I was chased out of the faculty twice because I spoke english, marks are always missing, names mispelled, the ‘‘on va fait comment’’ syndrome in classes. The story goes on and on. Lets make a difference where we are.
