UBSU ELECTION 2nd Feb 2009 WILL IT BE THE RED OR THE YELLOW? Yes, it is true that there is heat on the campus now as to which party’s leader is the most competent. Dear friends, it takes a technocrat of the system to rule the students well. We all know the problems we are faced with here on campus; victimization, suppression of students rights, poor food quality, the issue of school fees not leaving out the house rents issue. Which is raising an alarm now and a host of other things.
Ok, now let’s look at the leaders and achievements of both parties; I won’t want to take sides but to bring out some facts. Yes they are both councilors but permit me ask this question; should a good councilor after losing elections to the other flee from council? How then will he know what is going wrong in the system in order to bring the change he is now preaching? Is it by keeping away from the students representative council and showing up only when campaign is due, a prove that you hold the interest of the students at heart? To all this I say NO. You cannot want to rule a people by keeping away from their representative council where their problems are channeled and addressed thus having no knowledge of their plight. Furthermore, a competent leader who preaches change should start by cleaning his closet. My Dear readers, if you were part of the Presidential debate either live or on air which took place at the open commons today on campus hosted by Chariot FM, you’ll all be a witness of the electoral fraud committed by the Red Party. They preach change; change is good but what kind of change? Positive or Negative? If he is given a term in office,is it fraud he shall call change? We don’t want a leader who shall bring about negative changes.i believe we are matured people with matured minds. They say the Yellow Party should hand over power to another.good.but the question is why is the same person who stood as presidential candidate last and lost to the Yellow, still going in this year? Yes there is nothing wrong in trying and trying again but if you do that and it does not work and you believe your party can bring change why not give another person of that same party a chance to contest and bring the change you preach? It should be noted at this juncture that change is not in the party but in the individuals of the party. Now,permit me take you back since they believe change is in the party,in 2005 2006 academic year, the Red party was ruling what did they do? There was a strike action which led to the death of some of our heroes. In 2006 2007 academic year, it was the turn of the Green Party, what happened? There was misappropriation of funds and their president together with some executives were impeached. Then came 2007 2008.The Yellow came to power and what did there do? It should be noted that it is the only party that has received a document from the administration acknowledging and congratulating them for their attempt at transparency.isn’t this great? In addition,we are all witness of the fact that students in the previous years were being paid 1000frs cfa after matching on youth and national days but you all know last year thanks to the Yellow Party and it’s present President hopeful who was then Deputy Vice President Economy and Finance, that levy was moved up to 1500frs.Not only that but loans were being given to close to 40 students to pay their fees when there was the heat of school fees drive last year.Cups and buckets were bought and offered to the school restaurant. Are these not achievements.Let me give you more of what you may not know, lately we had the problems of house rents,go to mini cites like Letia, Akansas and many others, thanks to the rapid intervention of the Party members, through diplomacy, students in the a fore mentioned cites benefited from the rents reduction.yes it did not work in other cites but this is because the students didn’t raise an alarm but i strongly believe the Yellow Party will still fight for us.Go back to the taxi driver strike last February,it was not a students strike but some of our students were victims of circumstance and they were locked up there including the former leader of the Red Party Mr. Abia David.Th Yellow Party through diplomacy lobbied with the state, they pushed hard, they fed the students, they were in court day in and out and finally, these students were acquitted.Isn’t this an example of what a good government with competent people should be? To protect the rights and interest of the students on and off campus? We need a steadfast leader.A leader who can stand up strong at the face of all odds and fight for our rights and not just babies who can be manipulated.Administration is continuity. To a critical point of view, the Yellow Party should be given a chance to continue with the good work they started with.Yes any government must have it’s shortcoming but it takes only a technocrat in that system to fill the loop holes.
You have read much and may be tired but i must say not bored. In this light,i won’t want to leave without hitting another hard point.Lets look at their slogans; ‘The Yellow Party is a party with students interest first’ that is for the Yellow Party and the Red Party has as slogan ‘change can’t wait,Red can’t wait’ good. but i want you to judge, which of these have the interest of students at heart?
LEADERS ARE CALLED TO SERVE reason why the Yellow party leader went through primaries in the party congress with two other competent member and he emerged with a landslide victory. After reading this, your mind must be now settled on who is the must competent candidate.Remember bad leaders are voted by those who do not come to vote.As a student,it is our right to vote our leaders, come on Tuesday with your ID cards,Library cards or form B and cast your votes for He who is competent. For Better is not Good Enough,The Best is yet to come,it’s better to vote for the devil we know than the Angel we don’t know for who knows, the Devil may become an Angel
ALL FOR ONE,ONE FOR ALL.
