The University of Buea created in 1993, by presidential decree is witnessing a significant growth in its infrastructural developments, with the construction of some new class rooms and other buildings in the campus.

Recently, there has been the construction a multi - purpose building dedicated to the lecturers as their sitting or staff room. There is need for new classrooms and amphi theaters that will accommodate the growing number of students entering the University each year. The biggest classroom – amphi 750 is still small for some classes like biology, chemistry, geography and a host of others. In a class like biology which is a compulsory course for those reading biology for a B.Sc (Hons) and those reading curriculum studies and teaching in Biology, those taking zoology, microbiology all offering biology as a compulsory course with six (6) credit value. Microbiology alone this year has close to 230 students for 200 levels, by the time the other departments are added to that we have close to 850 students taking that single course. We don’t expect that figure to be chocked up in a single amphi of 750 seats. Classes can’t hold at the open air amphi 750 of course that’s not possible.

The Lord Mayor for the Buea Municipality Mbella Moki Charles when asked to outlined some of the benefits received so far from the ruling government could be quote as saying “the tarring of the road mile 17 – police road, the infrastructural development in the University of Buea, and the lots more”. well we all are still to see these infrastructural development. It is the Seoul duty of the state to build and furnished offices in the University since it’s a state owned.

We the students of the University of Buea thank the Government and some specific members of the UB’s administration for their relentless efforts so far trying to put the University of Buea at the top of other places or Universities around. Not being Oliver Twist we still ask that more efforts should be put in place as transport facilities within the campus of the University for the students at cheap rates some distances in the University are too long to be covered by the students if one has a class at U – Block and after that another one at Restau imagine the distance.
